- After having to add some water to top off I ended up at 1.055 according to hydrometer reading from carboy
Pitched on yeast cake of a IIPA brewed with Wyeast American Ale yeast. This whole night got sloppy in general. I guess you’ll have that the first time you try anything new. Fingers crossed that this one turns out OK.
Dryhopping (6/30/2010)
Opened the carboy today to add the 2oz of Nugget hops. Took a hydrometer reading which showed 1.008 which puts the beer at 6.3% ABV after temperature corrections. The beer tastes amazing. It’s like a hops explosion in your mouth.

All grain? Looked like it from the recipe. Hop schedule looks great. This looks yummy, right up my hophead alley! I like pitching on a cake, can produce great beers, only problem is you cant ever replicate them. Never stops me from doing it though
Just dont do it for competition beers, generally DQs em.
Yep, my first all grain via the “brew in a bag” technique that’s all the rage on HBT lately. Worked fairly well but my efficiency was low. I’ll attribute that to a lot of fumbling around during brew day. I’ve got it all much better organized in my head for next time about how I should be doing things now that I’ve done it once.
Thanks for the tip on the competition stuff…I had no idea. Though in all honesty I’m not worried about that sort of thing any time soon. But I am really excited about the beer. The hop schedule was definitely pretty awesome despite the gravity coming out a little lower than I’d have liked. I’ve still got reasonably high expectations for this one…maybe as a session IPA or something. Yeah, I just called what will likely be a 5.5% beer a “session” beer
