Belgian IPA (v3) – 7/11/2010
Well…it’s round 3. All grain attempt this time using this recipe: http://hopville.com/recipe/245383/home-brew/belgian-ipa-v3. Tried using the Brew365.com calculator for the mashing stuff this time (screenshot below). Seemed to work out about right…was a little tight on the head space in the mash tun but I didn’t spill too much (except during the transfers of the bag…need to find a better way to deal with that). I measured 12 brix after adding all mash contents together (1.049) and 1.058 temp corrected via hydrometer from the carboy at the very end.

8/4/10 – Gravity check:
I moved the carboy up to it’s final resting place today (from the floor to a table) so that it would be plenty clear when I go to bottle this week. Added some gelatin finings to help with the clarity too. Took a gravity reading which came to 1.008. Puts the ABV at 6.5% on this one. After tasting the hydrometer sample I’ve got to say that it’s possible the third time’s a charm! This is pretty damn close to what I was shooting for. We’ll find out for sure once it’s bottled and chilled.
